Wear OAT. Grow FLOWERS.
Greetings, Funky Boosters!
Before I start with my first post, let me give you a brief intro of who I am. My name is Lindsey Welsandt, and I am the small, blonde girlfriend of Sir Funky Booster, Bobby McGivney. My entire life I've been extremely passionate about fashion, and I've dreamed of working in the fashion industry since my first retail job at age 16. I have a Bachelor's in Fashion Design with my Senior Project focused on my other passion, animals! I designed and sewed a 5 piece collection of faux fur and pleather children's wear that celebrated animals' rights. Upon my graduation, I was offered a position at one of the leading apparel showrooms in Chicago, where I've been working full time for around 4 years. I am a vegetarian, only child, who appreciates personal style, and adores animals. My blogging will focus on (but will not be limited to) conscious clothing, animals (cough, cats), and any other sort of gadget or technological advancement that interests me.
When I took my first trip to Europe in the Summer of 2009, I spent a week in Amsterdam. My Couch Surfing Host, Victor, explained to me that it was a goal of the Netherlands Government to have 10% of their energy coming from renewable sources by 2020. He really admired Germany, and for good reason. Germany has grown from having only 6.3% of renewable energy in 2000 to around 17% in 2010. Everything in Amsterdam was overwhelmingly refreshing, from the bike to car ratio, to the way trams shared the streets with people. With Amsterdam holding such a sacred place in my heart, I was very excited to find this shoe innovation from none other than, Amsterdam!
OAT Shoes started as a project to be the first biodegraded shoe. For the past 2 years, the OAT Team have been working hard at getting together samples, trade shows, fashion shows, and as of now they are an established line throughout Europe. Not only does OAT Shoes have an incredible logo, but their sneakers and high tops and pretty stylish. Once your shoes are completely worn out, instead of throwing them away, you plant them into the ground and around 1 week later, flowers will bloom!! I am not making it a personal goal to own these, but it's really interesting to implement decomposition in a product, and this is only the beginning. These are not available worldwide and NOT even able to ship yet to the United States - talk about exclusivity...
The next TOMS perhaps?!
