Going to Europe!
First, I would like to introduce myself as Michael Brown (Downtown)
As a contributor to Funky Boosters, the goal of future blogs is to document events pertaining to my life Experiences and their relation to a larger scene, community, and World.
Currently I am at a crossroads in life. I am not even sure if Crossroads is the right way to explain where I am in the moment. I just graduated from DePaul University with a concentration in History. Eleven jobs, seven years, four schools and three geographical states, with countless more states of mind. On and off my job was studying many things either in the class room or on Wikipedia just out of curiosity, also because of graduation requirements. I see this knowledge and training in History as a connection between the past and the present for future generations, it is the role of people with the power to write history to present as many sides to a story as possible. The people before me who have made history or are a part of history, they took risks and decided to explore unknown spaces either geographical or metaphysical. When I was younger I was often hesitant to believe in authority. I liked breaking rules; someone once told me that if you know the rules, then you can bend them.. I can’t remember the quote, but I liked it. I am not going to law school or grad school or looking for a job. I don’t have to.
In each generation people have believed they were on the forefront of progress, and that their technology, historically was advanced. Being free, the summer right out of college I decided that I will go to Europe for Adventure, I am not sure what to find there, but I would like to see the things I read about in books and viewed in pictures. I figured I could get a job, move home to my parent’s house basically free or go on an adventure. Chose Europe, many countries in a small geographical space with lots of culture and history. I am open to suggestions on where to go and what to see.
I hope I will find the self I would like to manifest. Meaning, How do I know what’s out there if I don’t look? Normally I do everything last minute, I am going to attempt to use this blog as a catalyst to get me to start writing and taking pictures, and potentially shooting video.
I bought a guide book from 2009 at Half Price Books and I hope the information is still current. I will plan on putting everything in this one pack I have. I have accumulated over the last 10 years various pieces of equipment and necessities for a trip of this nature that I won’t really have to buy things until I get to Ireland. I figure they sell soap, toothpaste etc. there so I am trying to pack light and start the trip as light as possible. I took a pic of the things so far on my futon that I am organizing. Included is a pair of underwear that can be worn for 6 weeks with little washes here and there and they dry in 2-4 hours, check em out at http://www.exofficiounderwear.com. I tried to put the condom on the USA logo on my passport, but it slipped a bit.
