The Awesome Foundation was created in the Summer of 2009 in Boston. The Awesome Foundation describes itself as, "a micro-genius grant for flashes of micro-brilliance." It is their goal to raise money and give it back to the community with acts of kindness. There are Awesome Foundation chapters is in several cities, and the Chicago chapter was recently established in April 2011.

Awesome Chicago's first project was announced on July 19, and they will be awarding a $1000 to Little Free Library. Little Free Library is a 'take one, leave one' book stand. This organization that will be placing beautiful, decorative "libraries" throughout Chicago.
